Pigeon Religion

I saw this band by chance. Some friends and I had heard about a folk punk show at Black Market, and went to have a look. Pigeon Religion closed it out, in a manner that is still burned into my mind. Life is short, harsh and brutal. They grind up instruments with power tools and play in the dark. I couldn't hear the singer over the cacophony but I knew it was important. They're coming back through Burque on July 30th. This time playing Coalmine. Check it out, buy some 7". It's worth noting that the two I bought (Crystallized Meth & Scorpion Milk) kick much ass. And have seriously bizarre artwork. Ill get those up here soon enough. Until then, enjoy these oddly packaged and seriously harsh tapes.

Then I listened again and again and found Crow Hymn and now I like it enough to shove it down your throat. Its only two dudes, if ya didnt know. There apears to be some of that Mongolian Throat singing in here too....

When this record comes on, I just go all FUCK YEAH and jump around. I could do the whole this band is from Georgia and they sound like all the other bands from Georgia wich is awesome because they all kick so much ass and whatever. I fuckin love this album artwork BTW, dont you? Ok, so yes the art is by John Baizley of Baroness. So there's the whole Georgia thing again.

So the track Asherah acts as an intro to Jezebel the same way that Ogeechee Hymnal is for A Horse Called Golgotha on Baroness' Blue Record. Though, the Howl version is slower and meaner and dirtier you get the idea. The harmonization on Asherah is fantastic, put yout your horns up!

Now I gotta say, I think Ginsberg is a tool. This is not his Howl. I feel like im listening to a more metal, less savvy version of Baroness. Into it. I guess this is the sophomore release, I haven't heard the first record *yet*

I fell asleep listening to this slab last night, and let me tell you. I had some slow, miserable fuckin dreams. All my friends, turned to zombies, and I killed them. One at a time, slowly. This record feels like a meaner Electric Wizard. Maybe if Eyehategod and Electric Wizards "Dopethrone" fucked, this would be there sludgy, stoned baby. The liner notes read "Tune Down, Smoke Up". Good advice!
